HE Sheikh Saeed bin Surour Al Sharqi Chairman of Board of Directors of Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a number of Board members, entrepreneurs, instructors and students from the University of Fujairah witnessed an industrial workshop headed (Franchise from Locality to Globalism). The Chamber jointly with the UAE Association for Franchise Development (FAD) organized this event today at the Chamber’s Auditorium.
The workshop started by a speech delivered by HE Sultan Jamee’ Al Hindasi, the Chamber’s Director General who said that the organization of this event embodies the Chamber’s interest in developing man’s capabilities as he is the most important and effective resource of development. He added, “Innovation is the link between franchise and entrepreneurship as innovation in the idea of the project generates profits for the owner of individual property and the beneficiary as well.” He also called the youth to establish unconventional enterprises using innovative ideas in franchise industry.
Ms. Slama Matar Al Mansouri, Director of Entrepreneurs and SMEs Department at the Abu Dhabi Chamber and the owner of the idea of establishing FAD also spoke in the meeting. She said that the early start of franchise was in the USA in 1850 when Singer Company for making sewing machines gave the right of using its name to other companies.
She added that franchise is a contract between two legally and economically independent parties (franchiser and franchisee). The franchiser gives the franchisee the right to use one or more of its intellectual property rights or technical knowledge to produce the commodity or distribute its products or services under the franchiser’s trademark and according to its instructions and supervision within a specific region for a limited period in return for material benefits or obtaining mutual economic advantages.
She also detailed the importance and advantages of franchise as well as the legal side, types of contracts and the relationship between the franchiser and the franchisee in terms of rights. She spoke about the FAD pointing out that it is an entity representing franchise companies aggregating them in one web. This helps the sector solve its problems and defend its interests in the professional bodies. The association members represent the two franchise parties (franchiser and franchisee) along with those registered as collaborators and technical, administrative, financial and training service providers.
She stressed the FAD’s keenness to solve issues amicably, publish information and use state-of-the-art methods and systems in providing services, training, seminars, courses, exhibitions, certificates, naming experts and advisors and participating in the world franchise activities. She added that FAD works hard to raise awareness and knowledge about franchise system, support SMEs and promote franchise to expand it more.
